A Letter from DCA

Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles

January 1, 2016

Dear Friends,

Under the leadership of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Department of Cultural Affairs is pleased to present this year’s Festival Guide, which gives you an overview of the exciting festivals, celebrations, and events taking place throughout Los Angeles in the upcoming year.

As part of the Mayor’s “Back to Basics” priorities, the Department is helping to create a more livable and sustainable city by providing services, like this guide, that enrich our quality of life for our residents and visitors.

This year offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the diversity of cultures and traditions our City has to offer. I encourage you to discover, support, and participate in these unique experiences that only the neighborhoods and communities of Los Angeles can provide. As in previous years, we have focused particularly on those festivities that honor the multicultural mix that makes Los Angeles such an amazing and joyous place to live, work, and visit.

These celebrations have come together as a result of the passion of our festival organizers, and the breadth of events available provides a glimpse into the extraordinary cultural experience of our City. Through engaging in the music, art, dance, food, and history of our diverse metropolis, we hope you will gain new knowledge and greater understanding of the City of Los Angeles, its cultural heritage, and the vibrant arts and cultural communities that make it thrive!

Many of our festivals will expose you to music, film, theatre, literature, and dance. Explore deeper, and you will also find a fusion of folk art, myth, storytelling, history, and tradition.

Please join me in a year-long celebration of festivals that will enrich and enliven our lives here in the City of Angels.
